Bluesfest Nostalgia & Weekend 1 Recap

Hello from the mosh pit!

Just joking.. Ottawa’s biggest music festival, Bluesfest, has had pretty tame crowds despite all of the rock and roll that’s been performed. And I realize that some of you might be thinking ‘Wait, I thought I was on a food blog’ but I’ve been sharing a lot about my personal life this past year or so. I thought that I should also talk about my first love, music!

I started blogging about gluten free festival food at Bluesfest in 2013 but I’ve actually been attending the festival for 17 years straight! Bluesfest has had many iterations having travelled from LeBreton Flats to City Hall and back again. This year, they’ve paired the festival down, eliminating one main stage but there were plenty of acts I still wanted to see. Funnily enough, they were all very nostalgic to me - The Killers, Taking Back Sunday and the Backstreet Boys. I was never a huge boy band fan (I was more team Spice Girls) but all the boy idols I had were rock and rollers. Taking Back Sunday’s biggest single Cute Without the E was the first song I’d ever performed and The Killers, well, they were basically an anthem for my university years.

For all of my favourite throwbacks from 2001 (!!) to 2018, check out my instastories and follow me at @chefevabee on Instagram or click on the link here.

I can’t wait for next weekend to see Backstreet Boys but for now, here are some photos from the past weekend’s 2019 Bluesfest! Special shout out to Ottawa’s own Kelly Sloan who had a groovy set indoors on one of the hottest days this year.

Day 1 - Chvrches

(nostalgia: saw them for the first time live at Bluesfest 2015. Their first anthem was the soundtrack to my first catering job under my business name <3)

Day 1 - Kelly Sloan

(nostalgia: her drummer is an old friend of mine who has been navigating the media scene with me for years. Thanks for inspiring me to continue to forge my own path and business Jamie Kronick <3)

Day 3: Taking Back Sunday

(nostalgia: not the first emo band I crushed on but one of my faves. I think the singer lost his voice because it was not that engaging but I saw them anyway!)

Day 4: The Killers

(nostalgia: one word Zaphods)

See you at the festival this week! Who are you most excited to see?
